SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization. This refers to the process of enhancing a website to boost its visibility and position on search engine results pages (SERPs). The goal of SEO is to increase traffic to a website by making it more relevant and important in the eyes of search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
SEO involves various techniques and strategies, including keyword optimization, on-page optimization, off-page optimization, and technical optimization. Keyword optimization involves researching and selecting relevant keywords that users are likely to search for when looking for information or products related to a website's content. These keywords are then strategically placed in the website's content, meta tags, and URLs to signal to search engines what the website is about.
On-page optimization refers to optimizing the content and structure of a website's individual pages. This includes optimizing the title tags, meta descriptions, headings, and body content to make them more relevant to the targeted keywords. It also involves improving the website's user experience, such as ensuring fast page load times, mobile-friendliness, and easy navigation.
Off-page optimization involves building high-quality backlinks from other websites to improve a website's authority and credibility in the eyes of search engines. You can do this through various methods, such as guest blogging, influencer outreach, and social media marketing.
Technical optimization involves optimizing the technical aspects of a website, such as its site speed, mobile-friendliness, and crawl readiness (this is how well Google's "bots" can view and record data about your web pages and how your site works). This ensures that search engines can easily access and understand the website's content.
By implementing SEO strategies, websites can improve their visibility on search engine results pages, attract more organic traffic, and ultimately increase their chances of converting visitors into customers. SEO is an essential component of digital marketing and is crucial for businesses looking to establish a strong online presence and compete in the digital landscape.
Local SEO is pretty much going to account for all of the same principles in addition to local directories. These directories are essential in ensuring that you manage your visibility locally. Sites and applications like: Yelp, Yellowpages, Siri, Facebook, and even Snapchat will be your bread and butter here to name a few (there are actually a ton of different directories besides these).
This is extremely important for local or "brick and mortar" business but not so much if you have an e-commerce or online business that you run for example. Why is it so important to manage this for local businesses you might ask?
Well, it's proven for local businesses that NOT paying attention to your local listing management can have detrimental consequences on your business.
Mobile directories are important for businesses to show up near potential customers. For example, Alexa can help you find the nearest restaurant. When people search for services you offer, you want to appear on Google Maps or the local pack. Mobile directories play a crucial role in this!
Organic SEO can most easily be described as optimization for non-ad keywords, so, these are going to be keywords you can rank for because you are using them in your content - you will not bid for these like an AdWord.
Driving traffic to your website can be done a few ways but firstly the technicals are important here, if your site doesn't load/function properly then you will have some issues driving traffic consistently to your domain. The difference between this and local SEO is going to be that those mobile directories will no longer matter, if your business has no reason to have a physical local listing then you will not need Local SEO at all.
The name of the game here is going to be: tracking, optimizing, and measuring success. Before you start making or improving content, check that the website works properly!
At VizualzByVon, we offer Website Analyzation to ensure that the site is working well technically. We can also fix any problems we find per request.
After any technical gremlins have been worked out, if there were any that were bad enough in the first place, you'd want to begin focusing on keywords you want to rank for and start tracking the performance of them. Keyword research is crucial.
Keyword research is important. You may already have a list of keywords you want to rank for. Alternatively, you may have worked with a marketing agency before and they gave you a keyword list.
Keyword Research is another service we offer, but relatively speaking at this stage, this is where you are searching for "low hanging fruit" or easy to rank for keywords that ALSO carry good volume. When researching keywords, consider the monthly search volume and the difficulty of ranking for each keyword.
Example: You sell tires.
If you were to try and rank for a keyword like "tires" alone you will notice it has more volume but it may be much harder to rank #1 for a keyword this broad.
Now, if you sell a specific brand of tires and try to rank for this keyword you may notice it'll be a bit easier to rank for since it's less broad but it may also carry less volume in most cases. Longer variations of the seed or original keyword are called long-tailed keywords, with tire being the seed keyword and Nitto tires being the long tailed variation of that keyword for example.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has a lot of moving parts, every part of SEO will not be necessary for all business models but understanding them is important for when you do have to "cross that bridge" and actually deal with that moving part.
It's important to find have a designated starting point with something that can have as many angles as SEO can, this is why I believe a Website Analysis should be the start kind of like doing a diagnostic test on a car before doing any work to it. If you've already done the Website Analysis, you can move on to tracking keywords you already want to rank for or doing some keyword research to gather some keywords you want to rank for on a list.
Always keep in mind you want to check what is actually being search for and rank for those keywords, just because you think people search some a lot or at all doesn't mean that's true. Always research volume of a keyword and how easy or hard it may be to rank for it.
